Homework:

Monday to Thursday nights the children will have reading. It is important to hear this reading every night. Spellings continue this term. They will get spelling words every night from Monday to Wednesday and then have Thursday night to revise for a test on Friday. Spellings should be written out neatly every night and signed by an adult please.

The practical homework book will still be given out most weeks on a Monday. Please supervise your child doing their homework, sign it and make sure it is sent back on Wednesday.

Theme - Growing is great!

Later this term our theme is 'Growing is great!' We will be looking at growing plants, animals and pets and also how we grow. We hope to do a bit of planting and have our own Garden Centre, let's cross our fingers for some sun! We all love looking after and caring for animals! We will be learning about what pets need to keep healthy, making collars and blankets for pets, discovering what a vet does and thinking about what makes our pet special. Lastly we will have a little look at how we have grown over the last year and what things we can do now that we couldn't a year ago.

Maths

Keep practising the number bonds to ten - ask the children ways to make numbers, you will be surprised at how good they've got! This term most children will be counting up to 50, counting in 2’s to 20, doubling numbers up to 10 (e.g. 4+4=8, 5+5=10) and using the number names to 20 e.g. one, two, three etc. We will also be revising over more/less, numbers before/after and between, money, pattern, o’clock and shape.

Help out at home by talking about estimation and measurement. Get your child to make a ‘sensible guess’ of a group of things at home e.g. how many pencils are in a pot or how many pennies are in your hand (maybe no more than 10/15 things).

The following websites will help your children to reinforce some of these concepts in an enjoyable way. Having a quick recall of number facts will really help your child when they move into P3 so it is great to keep practising.

Literacy

Our handwriting is getting neater! We are now learning how to write capital letters. We are using lined books to keep our writing nice and straight in preparation for P3.

We will be continuing to improve our story writing - writing more and trying to do it more independently. Keep going over spellings as that really helps with all aspects of our literacy work.
