Netball Tournament

22nd Feb 2017

The Netball team trained extremely hard this year. The girls practiced every week with great energy and enthusiasm. Each girl was well suited to the position she played within the team. We had some strong girls in defence (Ellen, Madison, Phoebe and Maddie) and two excellent shooters (Lisa and Hannah) which helped us score goals and ultimately win matches. The girl who had the most running to do all over the court was our centre Emily Russell. She was instrumental in ensuring we had possession of the ball and alongside Katie our wing attack, made sure the ball always reached our goal shooters. I am impressed by how well the girls value each other and how they played as a team. I think this was the key to our success in several of the matches that we won.

We played a host of schools during the Netball League and Tournament. Out of the 5 league matches we won 3 and this helped to prepare us for the Tournament. Ballykeel got through to the final at the Tournament by scoring the most points in our section and winning 3 out of the 4 matches played. In the final we were up against St. Mary’s of Portglenone and sadly at this stage we lost 11-6. This was a tough match and both teams played extremely well. St. Mary’s girls were excellent and we congratulate them for winning the shield this year. Ballykeel girls will receive their silver medals as recognition for getting through to the final and coming second. Well done Ballykeel! I couldn’t be more proud of you girls!!
